well, it happened

FIRST SNOW! If I still lived in TN this would be a really exciting thing. When it snows where I am from, we get like one and half inches, and the world stops. Schools are closed. Businesses are closed. Cha ching! Free Day! When in snows in the city, its just a big fat slap in the face with a "better grab your boots girlie!" Because the city never stops. The snow is just a signal that the winter weather, though it may have been hiding, has appeared. The winds are back, and whipping around the corners of the buildings. The dark slush and salt are back, leftovers from the white powdery goodness.

However, do not be discouraged! There is an upside to the dreary, chilly weather... New Outerwear!!

pom pom hat. yes please.

festive plaid coat... uhh huh
the infinity scarf. warmest. thing. ever.

tights. showing your true colors.

one day when i'm no longer an assistant. i'll be the one wearing the furs... :)

Warmest Wishes...

i heart

Just got home from the struggle that was the grocery store this afternoon. It turns out that I'm not the only one who procrastinated with my holiday shopping! But I did pass by this and think...my thoughts exactly! I heart french onion dip. I am thankful for french onion dip. Happy Thanksgiving Ya'll!

turkey d a y

Can ya'll believe that Thanksgiving is next week? I'm in shock. It dawned on me ten minutes ago. I am going to be spending time with some friends and their family who always come to NYC to feast and go to the parade. Very excited! But I want to bring something... So I started brainstorming. Then I thought, wouldn't it be cute to bring cupcakes that look like turkeys? Off to google I went to find some ideas. "I know someone has had this thought before me." And I was right.

How adorable?

These are legit. But boy do they look complicated.

These have personality!

I like coconut! Nice touch.

Well, it looks like I have my work cut out for me. Better get started soon. Like I'm not a procrastinator. Ha.

mia michaels

So today, on my day off, I found myself watching back through old SYTYCD routines on youtube, and decided that a tribute to Mia is well overdue. Her work is so unique in the way that it moves a dancer's body across the stage, but also how the movements correlate with the music choice. It is so moving to me that I decided to do my own little top three favorite "Mia Moments". Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

1. duh.

2. yes.

3. i'm out of my chair. flitting around my apartment. probably pulling muscles.

sunday style

Really loved Akris's spring show for 2011. So many of the spring collections were so packed with brights and patterns that it felt a little overwhelming. Loved the simplicity of these looks and the pops of colors and the SHOES! I would buy those wedges in every color. If the budget would allow of course.

jams

Everyone in New York commutes. Even if you live in Manhattan, getting to-and-from work here is a process. Most likely you have a short walk to the train, and then a short walk from your stop to where you work. My commute is, including my stop at the deli for my iced coffee, about a 35 minute process. So, it makes sense that your commute would require a "pump up-get ready to greet the day" kind of play list. Thought I would share with you my current line up for the A.M.

rachels on my t v

my number one favorite...
Okay, so her real name isn't Rachel, but this girl is "Rachel-in love with Fin-obsessed with the spotlight-going to be on broadway someday!"

also my favorite...
"Rachel-of course she's wearing leopard print, because it's so hot for the fall-Has to reproduce-One Rachel Zoe is not enough-I die!"

And number three...drumrolll......

"Rachel-I can teach you how to cook in thirty minutes-or eat out for $30 a day-and I'm excited about it!"
Not so much a favorite, but I'm making thirty minute meals all over the place, so she has made my life a better one.

big spend e r

We had a huge sale recently in the shop. A great sale! A never-ending, exciting sale!

A $30,000 sale.

The husband smiles at me as I bring out the receipt for him to basically sign his life away. He had been lounging for a couple of hours downing cappucinos while his wife tried on everything in the store. He then turns to his wife, still smiling, and says, "Your horse better win his race in Kentucky this weekend, darling! Ah ha ha ha." I watch them leave chuckling, as I think to myself, "What I would do with $30,000. Oh wait, that's essentially my yearly salary. Must be nice!"

That's all. Just a thought to ponder.

fall palet t e

Everyone knows that when going to view the newest season's color palette, pantone knows! I just printed off fall's palette so that i can be looking for the key colors when browsing my bargains at h&m, forever, ect.It makes it easier be in the latest when you know the color trends, as well as silhouettes because you may have these colors in your closet already, just waiting to be pulled out! Gotta love girls on a budget.

I loved the colors and was feeling a little inspired, due to a trip to the MoMA yesterday, so I played around with some patterns. You have the ever classic fall plaid, along with something vintage inspired, and something that's just fun!

french b l e u

So I didn't, in fact, take a picture that I think is better than Marianne's beautiful shot of the Seine from my previous post. My focus was distracted while abroad to the beautiful French interiors. I vowed to come home and paint my entire apartment blue with red accents. Let's face it. That's not going to happen. But, it was impossible to not become brainwashed by all the Chateau-hopping that we did on the trip!

Chateau de Bontin. This was a "Courtenay" residence around 1500. We were met by the current owner Monsieur le Baron de Bontin. Notice the light blue shutters. Notice the mote!

Now to the interior.

All the different shades of blue in this room are fantastic. From the two tones on the walls to the furniture, rug, and accessories. Isn't it refined looking? But not too perfect. You know I hate matchy-matchy.

2nd shot of the room. More blue. More red. More to love.

bon voyage

On Friday I leave for an exploratory trip to Paris and some of the French countryside. I'm so excited about the trip I can hardly stand it, and this photo by Marianne Taylor really just captured the essence of all that I hope Paris will be. I've decided that I am going to challenge myself to try and take a picture that I like more than this one. It's going to be tough, but I'm enthusiastic!

hot off the p r e s s

Just received my bible. Well, my second bible. The september issue of Vogue came to me today. I see the plastic cover, and immediately see Anna Wintour's sunglasses and bob haircut. I plucked a few of my favorite ad campaigns.
