fall

You may have forgotten about me. And, I don't blame you one bit. We have not only missed a summer we could have shared, but we have missed fall also. The past few days have been so blissfully "fall". Temp in the 50's, sunny and breezy. Lot's of chic leather jackets and cashmere accents. But that's all about to change. It's practically just a matter of minutes before it's "out with the puffies"! Bring those dreadful, down filled, unflattering, quilted, fur hooded monstrosities. Don't get me wrong. I have roughly 4 puffies. Absolute necessity for any hope to survive a New York winter. But let's just take a moment with an ode to fall. I may not have been blogging, but I was out in full force with my iPhone. These photos should pretty much catch us up!

I got this one in orange! Super fun, but if I drop my phone I'm probably screwed...
Find them in a bundle at overstock.com for $10.

And last, but not least, the "coolest of the cool". Design your own!

I uploaded a picture of some flowers for spring. I took the picture in Paris last September. iLove.

Now, I realize that this is a $35 case. But wouldn't it make a great gift? Mother's Day maybe?? I'm just excited to know its out there! found at case-mate.com.

becoming a new yorker...

It's a process. I don't think I am a true New Yorker yet, but I feel certain I am on my way. Not because I have turned cold, or hard. Just because I am learning about people. There are so many people in the city that I have felt in the past year, that you could never judge a book by its cover and all people should be given the benefit of the doubt.

Now I'm not so sure.

Ok, there are homeless people everywhere. If I have change, I always toss it their way. Sometimes even multiple dollars. Sometimes even meals! Not trying to be self righteous, I have honestly always believed that it's just the right thing to do. I can survive without three dollars, so if that's what I have in my pocket, I dole it out like free after dinner mints.

Two funny stories however, have recently re-shaped the way I views those who I once cared for so much.

1. About two weeks ago, I walk down into my subway stop and there is a new little lady who I have never seen before. She's pregnant, and holding a sign, "Young, pregnant, broke. Baby daddy left me. I just need money for a bus ticket home." Just as I am dropping a quarter into her paper cup, I hear a man yell from the top of the stairs. I turn around to see her friend. Her accomplice! He yells down at her, "I've been callin' you! Why aren't you answerin' yo cell girl?! Let's go home!"

She jumps up. Concealed under her blanket was a backpack. She throws her cardboard sign, cup of change, and blanket into the knapsack and pulls out her pink bejewelled cell. "Oh I don't have service down here!! Sorry boo!"

Is this real life?

And 2. Sweet Allie Ficken is here in NYC with her momma and she is auditioning for musical theater roles. The three of us went to dinner last night. I had a huge pizza, so there was a slice left for me to take home. I have been taking my lunch to work everyday because I'm so broke, so I couldn't leave it at the restaurant. It was too perfect a lunch portion!

As we stroll down the sidewalk, there is a man on the sidewalk. He smells and doesn't have a coat. Its a really cold night. He asks for money, "A quarter? A dollar? A nickel? A dime?" I look into his eyes. In my mind I am questioning if I can even think of parting with my gourmet pizza. I offer it to him, only because I don't have any cash.

He replies, "Ohh no. I don't do 'dairy' ".

WTF. I mean really, who are these people?

Waiting for Summer...

Today it seemed like a total chore to go to a Dr.'s apt, pick up my dry cleaning, and mail some valentines because it's sooo freaking cold outside. I don't know how much more of this I can take. I find myself counting the days until April. Hopefully then it will be "light jacket weather".

While browsing youtube, I re-found my friend Charlie's video. The Brooklyn Brat Pack. It's filmed on an amazing roof in Brooklyn. Not only is it an amazing remake of the original video(below) but, it reminds me of summer time in NYC. Something I am dying for!! You're gonna love it.

Let's talk...fried

FRIDAY! Tomorrow is Friday. It's an especially fun Friday for me, because I have the weekend off this week! I have worked the whole week through, and am about to enjoy a "Saturday-Sunday Duo" off.

Having a normal weekend off has turned my thoughts to those warm weekends we used to enjoy in T-town. They allll started with a Fried Friday at the Delta Dome. The weekend started on Thursday technically at Galette's with $2 pitchers of Bud Light in our pocket tees, nike tempos, and ponytails. And then it was on to skipping class. Any class before 11:00 (lunchtime) was not an option. We had to get our fried fix! Hello!

There aren't many things I don't like about living in NYC, but I  haven't been home since October and I am hurting for some southern cookin! The "fried friday" menu at DDD always included chicken fingers, mac n cheese, fries, all the left-overs from the week, and fried okra. My NYC roommate just asked me what fried okra is. I almost fell out of my chair! "Bless his heart" was the phrase that immediately came to mind (smile).

I used this to explain... It's only fitting I think.

Even if you do know of fried okra, (I'm sure you love that southern popcorn) I think the video is a nice reminder of home!

Happy Friday.

song of the day

Ok. It got terrible reviews, I know. But Country Strong captured me 5 minutes in, and held me the entire movie. Maybe I'm just a Nashville girl who was able to get caught up in a way of life which I desperately miss. Maybe the scenes of Nashville and the attempts at southern accents was enough to hold me. But actually I think it was the music. The twang of the guitar is what held me, so I decided to share with you my favorite song from the movie in hopes that even if there isn't an appreciation for the film itself, you can get caught up a little in the chemistry in this song!

Garrett and Leighton fo eva.

Hope you enjoy!

2 0 1 1

So, we've all made some resolutions. Every year I make resolutions. However, I feel like I always approach them with an apathetic kind of energy. If they happen, life will be better. If not, there's always next year!

But this is no more! This year I am taking a new approach. My resolution is broader, but I feel like it is going to apply to many areas of my life. In the past I have made resolutions that were very specific...

2008- Meet more Phi Gams! haha.
This is funny, but it actually came true. Chuck and I started dating later that year, and dated for a year and a half. Success.

2009-Spend more time with friends.
I was single again this year, and definitely spent more time with friends. The focus of this was because it was our senior year of college, and it was a year to be savored. The year you never wanted to end.

2010- To break out of the box.
On January 7, 2010 I moved to New York to pursue a career in fashion, with only $500 in my savings account, a best friend, and a tee-pee for a room. The great curtain walled dining space! On February 8, I started my first job in the fashion industry, where I still am today.

So now we're caught up to speed. It's 2011, and there is a new resolution on the horizon. I want to be more diligent. I want to pursue the purpose of life. I don't want a day to pass by unproductively. I realize that there will definitely be those Sunday afternoons where I let the sun rise and set without doing anything. But maybe I will use that afternoon to call a friend from home who I am missing that day. Or skype with my parents. I want to be more diligent in my relationships. Put forth more effort to keep in touch. Be good to those who have been so good to me.

So here it is.
2011- Pursue diligence in faith, family, friends, and career. Here goes nothing!

For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
Hebrews 6:10-12

blizzard!

Well, it happened. My first blizzard. This put last snow to shame!
There were abandoned cars everywhere. This was early, like 9 in the morning!
Madison Ave. I was surprised at how many people were out and about. The snow would fly off the tops of the buildings with the wind creating this really beautiful mist. But boy was it cold!

St. Patrick's Cathedral. So beautiful.
